IDEAS, THOUGHTS, IMAGES AND GRATITUDE TO MAKE EVERYONE'S WORLD A LITTLE MORE WONDERFUL
![]() Westminster Kennel Club dog show, the second oldest continuous running sporting event in the United States. (second only to the Kentucky derby) The most exciting dog show to attend in North America. We are going to bring you a countdown on what to do in the 10 days leading up to WKC. But what if you have never entered Westminster Kennel club dog show? Can your dog even go? Well for 2018 of course it is too late. You can go and be a spectator or watch on TV. Television coverage will be available on FOX, Nat Geo WILD, FOX Sports Go and FS1. (check your local listings) More importantly if you want to enter WKC in 2019 here are the steps you need to take. 1 All dogs must be registered with the American Kennel Club or eligible for AKC registration. (as WKC entries are dependant on at least a major we suggest you have your foreign dog registered with the AKC as soon as possible) 2 Of course champions can be entered in the Best of Breed class but unlike other dog shows the NAME OF THE SHOW and the DATE OF THE SHOW that your dog finished it’s AKC Championship MUST be on the entry form. No matter how many times your dog has been entered at WKC this requirement must be met. 3 If you want to enter your dog in the classes this is also an option. Your dog must have one at least one major before the closing date. Typically the entries for Westminster close the first Friday of December at noon. Plan on winning that major by mid November. Again the NAME OF THE SHOW and the DATE OF THE SHOW that your dog won the major at must be on the entry form. If you use an entry service they should ask for this information. The official WKC entry form has an area to enter this information or if using an entry blank you can write it on the top of the entry. We have a great free YouTube Leading Edge Dog Show Academy Tutorial that may help you get into the greatest dog show in the big apple. It is called “How to enter a dog show” Looking forward to seeing you and your dog there next February!
